My Summer Goals

I actually can’t believe that it Is June TOMORROW.

It doesn’t seem like 2 mins ago I was sipping wine on New Years Eve while thinking, ‘OMG those fireworks are loud’ while running down the street to watch them in a vest top and skirt.

Every single year I am in disbelief at how fast the last 12 months have gone since I was last singing that funky New Year’s song (can’t remember the name of it).

Now, I’m sitting on my bed wondering how it is already HALF-WAY through the year.

As I’m off uni now until September, I kinda want to do something useful with my ridiculous amount of spare time, rather than just sleeping which I tend to do a lot of…

I’ve thought of a number of things I want to do over the Summer (and I promise I’ll at least try to keep them).

  1. RUN:

I was always one of those girls in P.E that HATED Cross-country. I would run for about five mins and not be able to breathe for about five hours (slight exaggeration but you get me). Tbh, I’m still like that. I don’t hate running, but I’m not exactly the best at it. At the start of the year, one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to do more for charity. So months ago I thought – let’s do the Great North Run, why not? I don’t regret my choice, because I’m raising money for a fantastic charity: the British Heart Foundation https://www.bhf.org.uk/ However, I regret not having started training sooner. My aim is to get off my lazy bum and start running almost every day. After all, the Great North Run is 13 miles.

2. START DRIVING:

It is ridiculous how excited I am to start driving. I never used to be that interested, but for the last few months the idea has grown on me. I am currently attempting to book lessons and fingers crossed I will be sitting in the driving seat having a lil bit of a freak-out in no time.

3. DANCING:

I have now been dancing for about 9 years. I do Ballet and Musical Theatre currently, but I used to also do Tap and Cheerleading. I absolutely love Ballet, and I want to try desperately hard to be the best dancer I can be. When I was younger, I used to see going to Ballet as more of a social activity and I didn’t try as hard as I should have. However, in the last few years I have really began to realise just how much it means to me, pushing myself to work to the best of my ability. One of my goals over Summer is to become more flexible, and improve my technique. I want to continue moving up to the next level, so I want to do whatever I can to make that possible.

4. JOB / VOLUNTEERING:

As much as I would rather not have a job (just being honest) I kinda need one, as do most students over the Summer. Not only that, but if I sit twiddling my thumbs for 4 months I’ll probs go insane. Volunteering is another option I am interested in. As I mentioned previously, I want to do more to help charity and I believe that volunteering would be a new, and fulfilling experience.

5. RELAX:

I know that this isn’t the most important goal, but relaxation this Summer is key for me. With the last few months being particularly stressful: I am looking forward to the odd day of just lying in bed eating Drumstick Squashies and Ben & Jerry’s, while catching up on the addictive story-line of One Tree Hill.

Not only is Summer great for the occasional sunny and warm days, but it is also fab for doing things you otherwise may not have the time to do. If you have a goal, then what better time to do it than when you have a couple of weeks off.

I’m looking forward to completing my goals; I feel a strong sense of motivation in carrying them out.
